Join renowned artist James Robinson of Bound By Sea for an inspiring, hands-on Pyrography (Wood Burning) Workshop, where you’ll learn the craft of creating art with heat, texture and technique. Whether you’re a complete beginner or a curious creative, this immersive 3-hour class will guide you through everything you need to know to design and burn your own beautiful surf-inspired or floral pyrography artwork.
And yes, you’ll take home your completed artwork AND your very own wood-burning tool, so you can continue creating long after the workshop ends.
What You’ll Learn
In this intimate workshop, you’ll be taught directly by James Robinson whose iconic murals you may have seen along the walls at Bondi. Now’s your chance to get up close and personal with the artist himself while learning the foundations of this beautiful slow art form.
You’ll cover:
- Safety & proper tool handling
- Wood-burning techniques for beginners
- How to plan and lay out your design
- Outlining, shading & detailing methods
- Texture, depth & artistic flow
- How to complete a finished pyrography artwork from start to finish
James will guide you step-by-step, helping you gain confidence with the tools and develop your own creative style.

Your space in a class is reserved only once full payment has been received.
Our workshop tickets are non refundable, but if you are aware you will be unable to attend, you may pass your ticket to someone else you wish to come in your place.
We do require a minimum number of people to run each class. In the rare event we do not meet the minimum numbers required to run a class, you will be offered your choice of a class transfer to a new date or a full refund.
In the event you forget to come or you are unable to attend a workshop, the ticket is non transferable after the event.
Whilst arriving, attending and leaving the workshops, it is your responsibility to ensure that you maintain and adhere to all safety precautions and requirements during the workshop. James is an Artist, Illustrator, Designer, Art Director & Board Shaper.
He is a life-long surfer and, above all, a gifted and consummate artist.
Based in Bronte Sydney Australia he has worked within the Surf/Skate/Snow industry for over 22 years on many great labels including: SMP, Lost, Op, Ocean Minded, The Realm, Split, Carve, Triple J and many more.
Illustration is James’ true passion, and with his focus on the ocean he creates artwork that takes the viewer to another place, a realm that, like the ocean, draws you in for life and becomes a part of you.
Creating artwork under the moniker’s DOLSEN & BOUND BY SEA he has quite literally etched himself a thoroughly unique style and in so created artwork that is not only visually stunning but in every sense a tactile experience.
James crafts his unique surfboards using only sustainable plantation Paulownia blanks sourced from the Byron Bay area of Northern NSW Australia.
Each board is one of a kind and the artwork that embellishes each one is hand drawn so no two are the same.
James is continually creating new, diverse and individually mind-blowing pieces of artwork. Join him for the ride.
