Join us for a calming and creative Basket Weaving Workshop with facilitator Britt Johnson.
In this hands-on workshop you will learn the beautiful art of basket weaving using Madagascan palm raffia. Over a relaxed and restorative few hours, Britt will guide you through the hidden core coiling technique, a traditional weaving method that allows you to create sculptural woven vessels with texture and character.
This workshop is perfect for anyone who would love to explore the world of basketry, fibre art and slow craft. Whether you are a complete beginner or someone who enjoys working with natural fibres, you will be gently guided through each step of the process.
During the class you will learn how to:
- Start and build a basket using the hidden core coiling technique
- Shape and structure your woven vessel
- Finish your basket with a clean and professional edge
- Work with Madagascan palm raffia, a beautiful and versatile natural fibre
Britt will also share ideas on how you can extend this technique at home. We will discuss ways to dye raffia in different colours, how the same coiling technique can be used with alternative materials such as paper twine or fabric, and how you can personalise your basket by adding decorative elements such as fringing or textured fibres.
This is a wonderfully mindful and meditative craft, allowing you to slow down, work with your hands and enjoy the satisfying rhythm of weaving.

Our workshop tickets are non refundable, but if you are aware you will be unable to attend, you may pass your ticket to someone else you wish to come in your place.
We do require a minimum number of people to run each class. In the rare event we do not meet the minimum numbers required to run a class, you will be offered your choice of a class transfer to a new date or a full refund.
In the event you forget to come or you are unable to attend a workshop, the ticket is non transferable after the event.
