ABOUT THE TUTOR - Nicole McCarthy
Hands on Workshop sells craft kits, tools and accessories from Japan. It grew from my interest in learning hobbies after leaving my career in the corporate world and was at home with young children.
I started by teaching myself how to make lampshades, which lead me to running workshops from home. It was around this time that I was travelling to Japan and I was introduced to the Japanese craft and artisan culture. I started using Japanese Tenugui fabric for lampshade making because it was a novel way to work with beautiful patterns and designs without having any sewing skills!
The rectangular cottons that come in a mesmerising array of designs are the perfect weight, texture and size to make small lampshades.
Hands On Workshop was started as a way of making the quality kits and materials I found in Japan accessible to the wider craft community. We have textiles, leathercraft, linen aprons, artisan tools and fun hard-to-find crafty items, and we’re adding new products to the online shop every month.
This workshop will be held at Studio 4102, 4 Daydream St, Warriewood
